Industry Leading Technology Providers: The Pet Care Space

Technology in the pet care space is changing rapidly, sped up by the increased need for Telehealth and social distancing practices.

In 2018, 68% of U.S. households now include a pet, up from 58% in 1988. Pet owners are increasingly viewing their pets as part of the family, desperate for the pets to live longer, healthier, and more comfortable lives.

From flea and tick prevention to holistic foods, the pet care industry is booming. We have also seen a rise in pet insurance, advanced surgical procedures, digital devices, and specialty services.

Who are the Industry-Leading Technology Providers of The Pet Care Space?

Below are five technology providers leading the digital boom in the pet industry: Our opinion, of course.

  • PetDesk

    • Software that works alongside a veterinary clinic’s existing practice management system to streamline client communication.

  • Pet Insight

    • A data-driven project that aims to enable a new era of proactive, preventive care for pets by observing pets’ behavior and health histories.

  • Whistle

    • A health and location tracking device that is connected with an application that includes virtual vet support, preventative health alerts, and goal setting and monitoring.

  • Vetster

    • An application that connects pet owners, veterinary clinics, and pet business owners.

  • FitBark

    • A wellness monitor and GPS that connects with an application for owners to learn more about their pets and to connect with other pet owners.

Connecting Puzzle Pieces Through Technology

Brands are looking to capitalize on owners’ desire for healthy, data-driven engagement with their dogs. Location and wellness tracking is just the beginning. Today’s innovations within the pet sector are ever growing and improving. Companies are aiming to connect owners with vets and predict early signs of health problems.

The vision is to re-think access to pet care data through state-of-the-art technology designed to bring both the pet owners and pets into one ecosystem to better manage pet care. The data is often connecting dog sitting, boarding and walking companies, pet food and treat companies, veterinarian practices, and so much more. The many different pieces of information in your pet’s life had been previously siloed and are finally breaking down.

Solving Major Pet Health Concerns

There are many different health concerns that technologies in the pet care space are trying to tackle. Wellness and health trackers and wearables can flag decreased activity, which can be a symptom of illness or pain. The data from this technology draws from other similar dogs too, allowing for comparisons to dogs of the same age, breed, and size.

Obesity in dogs can be monitored, early warning signs for illnesses can be flagged, and recovery plans can be tracked. Technology is allowing pet owners and veterinarians a direct look into the pets’ lives through data. Like most technology and tools, as the data availability and visibility increases, the technology will continue to improve and advance.

Soon we will be getting alerts on our phones or watches saying that our pet may have early warning signs of diabetes or was near a pond that had poisonous bacteria in it—Just wait, you’ll see!
